Width Guide
Regular / Wide
For medium to wide feet. On the footbed, look for an outlined footprint symbol. Women’s equivalent: C–D. Men’s equivalent: D–EE.
Outlined Footprint
Narrow
For narrow to medium feet. Fits most women’s feet. On the footbed, look for a solid/filled footprint symbol. Women’s equivalent: A–B. Men’s equivalent: B–C.

How to Measure & Test the Fit

Measure Foot Length
Stand with your heel against a wall. Measure from the wall to the tip of your longest toe in millimeters. Add 10mm for room to move.

Match to Chart
Use the footbed length column to find your EU size. If between sizes, choose the next size up—feet expand slightly under body weight.

Check Width Symbol
Look at the footprint printed on the footbed. Outlined = Regular/Wide. Filled = Narrow. Choose the width that matches your foot shape.

Flex Before Wearing
Before trying them on, flex the footbed by placing one hand under the toe and one under the heel. This begins the break-in process.
Breaking In Your Birkenstocks

Start Loose
Keep straps loose at first to avoid pressure points. Your feet need time to adjust to the contoured footbed.

Wear Gradually
Wear them around the house for 1–2 hours at a time. Gradually increase wear time as your feet adapt.

Tighten as They Mold
As the footbed begins to mold to your feet, you can tighten the straps for a more secure fit.

Check Toe Space
Your toes should never touch the edge of the footbed. Aim for about ¼ inch (6mm) of space around your foot.

Fit Note: Birkenstock shoes may feel roomy at first—this is intentional. The footbed is designed to let your toes spread naturally, and the upper will mold to your foot over time.

If your straps feel too loose even when tightened, a cobbler can punch extra holes. If there is significant room on either side of your foot in the footbed, you are most likely a Narrow width.

All measurements are approximate and based on European sizing. Footbed lengths include a small allowance for foot movement.

The BIRKENSTOCK Lutry is a slipper that can be worn as a backstrap style or as an open clog thanks to the flexible ankle strap. The footbed can be removed, for you to choose between three different footbed versions. This basic version features our standard footbed. It replicates the natural print made by a foot walking on sand and will see you through the day in comfort. The upper is made from soft, grained natural leather.

Upper material: Natural leather

The natural leather that we use is mostly smooth leather, in some cases tumbled leather. This type of leather has many special characteristics, such as breathability, adaptation to the shape of the foot and durability.

Insole: Natural leather

Natural leather can be recognized by its untreated surface. BIRKENSTOCK purposely does not treat surface grains and other characteristic features. BIRKENSTOCK uses sturdy leather with a thickness of 2.8 to 3.2 millimeters as upper material.

Footbed material: Cork

Cork is a sustainable material extracted from the bark layer of the cork oak. This natural product is insulating and offers very good cushioning.

Outsole: Rubber

Because of its high elasticity rubber is very well suited for outsoles. Thanks to this property it supports the natural rolling motion of the foot. Rubber is also very robust and has good cushioning.
